Most of Bree’s adult life has been guided by her belief in the divine desires for creativity and justice. After attending Wisconsin Lutheran College for theatre and Full Sail University for film, she moved to New York and worked in casting for television. Upon returning to Milwaukee, she joined a local nonprofit with the initiative of community development by relocating people to homes in the city, the most segregated in the U.S. She remained in the Milwaukee neighborhood of Sherman Park for a decade, which profoundly shifted her ways of thinking about poverty, racism, history and herself.
2013 saw the production of Bree’s first play, Work in Progress, based on her experience as an employee at a nonprofit temp agency for people who had been incarcerated. In 2016, Soulstice Theater produced her second play, Starlings, which was reviewed in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel as “a conversation making as smart and moving a contribution to the halting dialogue between homosexuality and Christianity as I’ve seen on stage.” Starlings sold out every performance in its three-weekend run. High-quality recordings of Work in Progress and Starlings are posted on this website and continue to draw an audience.
Between 2014 and 2022, Bree was active in the Milwaukee performing arts scene, appearing in productions at various companies, including Acacia Theatre, Renaissance Theatreworks and the Milwaukee Fringe Festival. Her portrayal of Carol in Erin Nicole Eggers’ vision of Oleanna started an international discussion about the rights of interpretation and the realities of gender expansiveness.
In 2022, Bree moved to Chicago, where she completed three levels of acting for the camera at The Green Room studio and levels A through E at The Second City. She has performed as a guest artist with Queer Sacred Space Salon, Oddball Social Club and Lovesome. Her first film, A Real Inverted Person, is nearing the end of post-production. Since 2015, she has written film reviews for Cinema Faith, and before that, Relevant Magazine.
